We were at the dentist yesterday, and one of the staff said that they had never seen such a large amount of people coming in for dental work resulting from grinding of teeth as a result of tension. We live in an odd and worrisome time. That is why we have been focusing on Psalms 37 recently on our Facebook posts. (If you don’t follow us on Facebook, sign up here.) How could a word from God that starts out, “Do not fret because of evil doers,” be any more timely and encouraging than now. In saying do not fret about evil, God through King David is not saying don’t care about evil and let evil run unchecked. That is where we take the full context of scripture into play. But what he is saying here I believe is that we should not put the weight of our hearts on evil. We should not meditate on evil. We should put the weight of our hearts in the trust of the Lord, and pray for wisdom to take action against evil. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil who the scriptures tell us is like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Psalms 37 tells us our strength for this battle and our salvation is from the Lord. We must put the weight of our hearts on the Lord.
The words of British poet Robert Abrahams say it well, “For some men die by shrapnel, And some go down in flames, But most men perish inch by inch, In play at little games.” Our goal is to identify the little games and put a stop to them and put the right weight on the right things.
